Resize
Format

Social media sizes checked against the official help centers of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Pinterest in October 2026. When a network only gives the aspect ratio (Reels, TikTok, X posts and the HD thumbnail), we use a sample size with that ratio, above the official minimum. They’re a guide: networks change them without notice. Everything runs in your browser with canvas, and saving strips EXIF data such as GPS location.

An image resizer shouldn’t make you upload your photos to someone else’s server or do aspect ratio math by hand. Here you drop your images, pick a width, a percentage or a social media size, and you’re done. Everything runs in your browser, several photos at a time.

How to resize an image in 3 steps

    1. Drop your photos

JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF, one or a whole batch. No image handy? Tap the page and you’ll see a sample resized to 1,080 px.

    2. Choose how to resize

By pixels (with Keep aspect ratio on, the width or the height is enough), by percentage, or with a social media size.

    3. Download

Each file comes out with its size in the name, like photo-1080x1080.jpg, so nothing gets mixed up.

Whether you need a photo resizer for one picture or a whole folder, the process is the same.

Resize image files without distorting them

When the size you want has a different aspect ratio than your photo, you choose what happens:

    • Fill and crop: fills the whole canvas and trims the extra from the sides. The usual pick for social media.
    • Fit with borders: the whole photo, with bands in the color you choose.
    • Blurred background: the whole photo on top of a blurry version of itself, the classic Stories trick.
    • Stretch: only if you know what you’re doing, because it distorts.

Increase image size without making it blurry

Enlarging never adds detail. The tool spreads the pixels you already have and calculates the missing ones, so every extra pixel is a guess. The percentage slider tops out at 200%: each side doubles and the image gets four times the pixels, three out of four of them invented. An 800 × 600 photo at 200% becomes 1600 × 1200, fine for a web banner and not for a print.

To make an image bigger without losing quality you can see, start from the largest version you own, enlarge once and stay at or under 200%. Need more? That’s a job for AI upscaling. Adobe’s Super Resolution in Camera Raw, for example, doubles the width and height (four times the pixels) and takes JPEG and TIFF files, according to Adobe’s help. One side effect: an enlarged image weighs more without looking sharper, so compress it afterward if weight matters.

Change image resolution: pixels, DPI and 300 DPI in pixels

“Resolution” means two different things, and mixing them up causes most of the confusion. One is the pixel size, like 1200 × 1800. The other is DPI (or PPI), a density label saved in the file. On a screen only the pixels count. For print, the formula is simple: pixels = inches × DPI. That’s our own math, and 300 DPI is the common target for a sharp print, not a rule.

    Print sizePixels at 300 DPI
    4 × 6 in1200 × 1800
    5 × 7 in1500 × 2100
    8 × 10 in2400 × 3000
    Letter, 8.5 × 11 in2550 × 3300

To get there, choose By pixels, switch on Keep aspect ratio and type the width from the table. If your photo has fewer pixels than the table asks for, the print will look softer, and enlarging first won’t fix that.

Social media image sizes, checked in October 2026

We took them from each platform’s official help center. Where a network only gives the aspect ratio, we list a sample size that matches it.

    NetworkFormatSize in px
    InstagramSquare, 3:4 portrait and 1.91:1 landscape post1080 × 1080, 1080 × 1440 and 1080 × 566
    Instagram9:16 Reel and Reel cover1080 × 1920 (sample) and 420 × 654
    TikTok9:16 vertical video or photo1080 × 1920 (minimum 720 × 1280)
    YouTube16:9 thumbnail3840 × 2160 (minimum width 640)
    YouTubeChannel banner2560 × 1440
    LinkedInProfile background and company cover1584 × 396 and 1512 × 256
    LinkedInPost image1200 × 627
    XHeader and profile photo1500 × 500 and 400 × 400
    FacebookPage cover photo and profile picture851 × 315 and 320 × 320

The Instagram post size that performs best is portrait, 1080 × 1440, because it takes up more of the feed: the Instagram help center accepts 1.91:1 to 3:4 at 1,080 px wide. If you need to resize image for Instagram, that’s your target. The YouTube thumbnail size is 16:9 with at least 640 px of width, per YouTube Help. The LinkedIn banner size for a personal profile is 1584 × 396, the Twitter header size on X is 1500 × 500, and the Facebook cover photo size for a Page loads fastest at 851 × 315.

They’re a guide: networks change their specs without notice, which is why we date them.

    Real-world uses for your business

    • Product catalog: every photo at 1200 × 1200 with white borders, so your store looks tidy.
    • One campaign, several networks: the same photo at 1080 × 1440 for Instagram, 1200 × 627 for LinkedIn and 1500 × 500 for your X header.
    • Blog: featured image at 1,200 px wide instead of the 4,000 your camera spits out.

Frequently asked questions about resizing images

How do I resize an image?

Drop the image into the tool above and choose how: by pixels (type the width or the height and the other side is calculated for you), by percentage, or with a social media size. In a second you’ll see the new dimensions and file size, ready to download. It handles several images at once and uploads nothing.

How do I resize an image without losing quality?

Shrinking is barely noticeable when it’s done right, and this tool scales down in steps to avoid the jagged edges you get from shrinking all at once. What does lose quality is enlarging: stretch a 600 px photo to 1,200 px and the browser has to invent the missing pixels, so it looks soft. Always start from the largest version you have.

What is the Instagram post size?

Instagram uploads photos at up to 1,080 px wide and keeps the resolution when the aspect ratio is between 1.91:1 and 3:4. That gives you 1080 × 1080 for square, 1080 × 1440 for portrait and 1080 × 566 for landscape. If the ratio falls outside that range, Instagram crops the photo. We checked its official help center in October 2026.

What is the YouTube thumbnail size?

YouTube currently recommends 3840 × 2160 px, in 16:9, with a minimum width of 640 px. In practice, 1280 × 720 meets both rules and weighs far less. The file size limit is 2 MB if you upload from your phone. Both sizes are in the tool’s social media list.

What’s the difference between resizing and cropping?

Resizing changes the size of the whole image: the entire photo gets bigger or smaller. Cropping cuts part of it away to keep one area or change the aspect ratio. When you ask for a size with a different ratio, like turning a landscape photo into 1080 × 1080, you have to choose: fill and crop, fit with borders or stretch.

How do I batch resize images?

Drop all the files into the tool together, or select them in the file picker, and choose one setting: pixels, percentage or a social media size. The same rule applies to every image. If your photos mix portrait and landscape, pick Fit with borders or Fill and crop so they all land on the same canvas. Each download carries its size in the name, like photo-1080x1080.jpg. With Download all, your browser may ask permission to save several files.
