How to Make Money on TikTok in 2027: How to Get Monetized and What It Really Pays
Checked against TikTok's official pages: every program, what it asks for, what it pays and the steps to get approved.
If you want to know how to make money on TikTok, start with this: TikTok pays you for qualified views, LIVE gifts, subscriptions and paid series, and it lets you earn from brands and TikTok Shop commissions. Each program has its own bar to clear, and most of them start at 10,000 followers.
The part most guides skip is the math. TikTok doesn't publish a pay rate, so we pulled the official requirements from TikTok's own pages and ran the numbers with a sourced range. We also asked ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini the same question to see what they get wrong.
Below you'll find every program, how to get monetized on TikTok step by step and what a million views is really worth. For more growth playbooks, see our social media guides.

How does TikTok pay you? The 6 official ways
TikTok pays you through six official programs: qualified views, LIVE gifts, subscriptions, paid Series, brand campaigns on TikTok One and TikTok Shop affiliate commissions.
The TikTok Creator Rewards Program is TikTok's program that pays creators for qualified views on original videos longer than one minute. You join it through TikTok Studio, and since spring 2025 it adds an Additional Reward for videos that are well crafted, engaging and specialized in a niche.
What it isn't: it's not the old Creator Fund, which TikTok discontinued in the US on December 16, 2023. And it doesn't pay for followers or likes. It pays for qualified views.
| Program | What you get paid for | Key requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Creator Rewards Program | Qualified views on videos over 1 minute | 18+, 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in 30 days. |
| LIVE gifts | Diamonds from gifts viewers send | 18+ and 1,000 followers to go LIVE. |
| Subscription | A monthly fee from your fans | TikTok Studio shows your eligibility. |
| Series | Paid collections of videos | 10,000 followers, 18+, account at least 30 days old. |
| TikTok One | Paid brand campaigns | 10,000 followers, 1,000 views and 3 posts in 30 days. |
| TikTok Shop affiliate | Commission on each sale | 18+ and 1,000 followers for the pilot program, 5,000 for full access (checked 2026). |
Some thresholds vary by region, and TikTok Studio's Monetization tab is the final word for your account.
TikTok monetization requirements, program by program
To get paid on TikTok you need to be 18 and have 1,000 followers for LIVE, or 10,000 for Creator Rewards, Series and TikTok One.
Every program also asks for an account in good standing. Creator Rewards adds two more rules: you must live in one of the eight countries on TikTok's official program page, the US among them, and use a personal account, because business and political accounts don't qualify.
How many followers to get monetized on TikTok?
It depends on the program: 1,000 to go LIVE and receive gifts, 10,000 for the Creator Rewards Program, Series and TikTok One. Subscription eligibility is shown inside TikTok Studio.
How many views to get monetized on TikTok?
For Creator Rewards, 100,000 views in the last 30 days to join, and then each video needs at least 1,000 views on the For You feed before it starts earning. Series and TikTok One ask for 1,000 views in 30 days.
What counts as a qualified view?
A view of at least 5 seconds from a unique account, so ten replays from one person count once. Views with a "Not interested" tap, paid views and views from outside the eight program countries don't count. Search views count only if they last 30 seconds.
Which videos earn and which don't?
Original videos over one minute earn. Duets, Stitches, Photo Mode posts and sponsored content don't. For the Additional Reward, TikTok also wants 1080p or higher.
How much does TikTok pay per 1000 views?
TikTok doesn't publish a rate, but creator-reported payouts put it at about $0.36 to $1.04 per 1,000 qualified views.
That range comes from Uppbeat's September 2026 roundup of payouts creators shared publicly: $362 to $1,035 per million qualified views, with an average close to $0.80 per 1,000. So how much does TikTok pay you specifically? It depends on who watches: TikTok says older audiences and content in the viewer's local language tend to earn more, along with watch time, engagement and originality.
| Qualified views | Low end ($0.362 per 1,000) | High end ($1.035 per 1,000) |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | $3.62 | $10.35. |
| 100,000 | $36.20 | $103.50. |
| 1,000,000 | $362 | $1,035. |
How much does TikTok pay for 1 million views?
$362 to $1,035 if they are qualified views. For one million total views, expect less: Uppbeat found an average of $0.34 per 1,000 total views, about $340.
How many views do you need on TikTok to make $100?
Roughly 97,000 to 276,000 qualified views at that range. And remember you already need 100,000 views a month just to join the program.
If you're weighing platforms, compare it with how much YouTube pays per view, which splits ad revenue in a different way.
How to get monetized on TikTok, step by step
Clean up your account, check which programs TikTok Studio offers you and apply for the one you already qualify for first.
-
Switch to a personal account and clean up your bio
Creator Rewards doesn't accept business accounts. Remove your phone number or email from your profile too: TikTok lists personal or business contact info in your bio as a reason to be ineligible.
-
Open TikTok Studio and check the Monetization tab
Go to your profile, tap the menu (☰) and open TikTok Studio. The Monetization tab shows the programs available for your account and whether you meet the requirements.
-
Apply for the program you already qualify for
Apply for the Creator Rewards Program and you'll hear back within three days. For TikTok One, tap Creator Marketplace, then Check eligibility.
-
Plan your first LIVE
At 18 with 1,000 followers you can go LIVE. Post a video right before so people find you from the For You feed, and stay on longer: TikTok says LIVEs of 60 to 80 minutes tend to get more views than 10 to 20 minute ones.
-
Post videos over one minute at your best time
Original, 1080p, with a hook in the first 5 seconds. Publish when your audience is awake: here's the best time to post on TikTok, day by day.
-
Set up payouts before your first dollar
In your profile's Balance, add a payout method and complete your tax info. Withdrawals are usually processed within 72 hours.
-
Track engagement every week
Check where viewers drop off and work out your engagement rate with our engagement rate calculator. The Additional Reward pays for watch time and conversation.
How to make money on TikTok Live with gifts
On TikTok LIVE, viewers send virtual gifts, you collect Diamonds based on how popular your stream is, and TikTok pays you cash rewards.
To go LIVE you need to be 18 and have 1,000 followers (TikTok says the number may vary by region), and you must be 18 to send or receive TikTok LIVE gifts. Turn on LIVE Gifts in settings, go LIVE and check your Diamonds in the summary when you end. Cash rewards are withdrawn from your Balance to PayPal or your bank.
TikTok also runs weekly rankings by Diamonds: the top 20 LIVE creators each week get prizes, and the weekly Gift Gallery tasks give fans a reason to keep gifting.
TikTok Subscription and Series: paid by your biggest fans
TikTok Subscription pays you a monthly fee from fans who want extras, and Series lets you sell collections of videos behind a paywall.
With a TikTok Subscription you set the price from $2.99 to $99.99 a month (the default is $5.99) and offer subscriber-only videos, a badge and perks you design. You keep 70% after app store fees, and TikTok may add a 20% bonus, up to 90% total, if you have over 10,000 followers, over 100,000 views last month and post subscriber-only videos.
Series asks for 10,000 followers, 18+, an account at least 30 days old, 3 posts and 1,000 views in the last 30 days. Each Series can hold up to 80 videos of up to 20 minutes, with an optional free intro.
TikTok One: how to join and get brand deals
TikTok One is where brands find you, manage campaigns with you and pay you without leaving the app, according to TikTok's Creator Academy (updated August 18, 2026). In TikTok Studio the entry is still called Creator Marketplace, and it takes you straight into TikTok One.
Fill in your profile first, because that decides whether brands find you. Add your email, the languages you speak and your expected rate: advertisers and agencies can see all three. Swap a generic "creator" bio for your niche, and turn on notifications so you don't miss invitations.
There are two ways in. With an invitation, a brand reaches out and you accept or decline. With an open application, you apply yourself: some projects take you with one tap, others need the brand's approval. Also check where the video lives. A branded post goes on the brand's account, which can boost it with Spark Ads, and never touches your profile. A sponsored post goes on your account, tagged "Sponsored". Region lists differ between the two, so check both before you apply.
The bar isn't one number. The Help Center's eligibility check asks for 10,000 followers (which may vary by region), 1,000 views and 3 posts in the last 30 days. The Academy says projects require at least 1,000 followers as a baseline, plus whatever each brand adds on top.
How to make money on TikTok without 10k followers
Below 10,000 followers, your options are LIVE gifts from 1,000 followers, TikTok Shop affiliate commissions and brand deals you land on your own.
TikTok Shop has been live in the US since September 12, 2023. To join as an affiliate you need to be 18 with over 1,000 followers: from 1,000 to 5,000 you're in a pilot program, and full access starts at 5,000 (TikTok Shop's creator page, checked 2026). You pick products, tag them in videos or LIVEs and earn a commission on each sale, with no inventory. If you'd rather sell your own products, here's how to sell on TikTok Shop, step by step. And nothing stops you from pitching local brands directly before you qualify for TikTok One.
How to get paid on TikTok: payout cycles, minimums and taxes
You get paid from your Balance: set up your payment details, wait for your program's payout date and the money lands in your account. Open your profile, tap the menu (☰) and choose Balance. The top shows your combined estimated balance, and each program lists its rewards and next payout date.
Three things decide when the money arrives, per TikTok's Creator Academy (updated August 18, 2026):
- The cycle. It can be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on the program, and you can't choose it.
- The minimum. Depending on your payment method, you may have a minimum payout that you can change from the three-dot menu on Balance. There's also a maximum, and it varies by region.
- The setup. Add a payment method, enter your tax information and verify your identity. Skip any of them and no payout date even shows up.
TikTok says Creator Rewards withdrawals are usually processed within 72 hours, and your bank may hold them longer. If PayPal fails, check that you finished the authentication on PayPal's side.
Taxes are on you: rewards may be taxable, and TikTok can't give personal tax advice. TikTok doesn't issue invoices for Creator Rewards payouts, but you can download a statement for each transaction from Balance.

Frequently asked questions about making money on TikTok
How do you make $1,000 a month from TikTok?
By stacking programs, because views alone take a lot. At $0.36 to $1.04 per 1,000 qualified views, $1,000 from the Creator Rewards Program needs roughly 1 to 2.8 million qualified views a month. Add a Subscription and the math changes: 150 fans at the default $5.99 gross about $900 a month, and you keep 70% of it after app store fees. LIVE gifts, TikTok Shop commissions and one brand deal can cover the rest.
Which countries have the TikTok Creator Rewards Program?
Eight, according to TikTok's official page updated on September 11, 2026: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico and Brazil. You have to live in one of them and have your account registered there. Canada, Australia and Spain are not on the list. Views also have to come from those eight countries to count as qualified, so a big audience elsewhere earns nothing from the program.
Do AI videos get monetized on TikTok?
TikTok doesn't publish a blanket AI ban for the Creator Rewards Program, but it does exclude unoriginal and low-quality content: videos copied from others, with minimal edits, slideshows or meaningless reactions. So a faceless AI voice reading a scraped script is a long shot, while an original video where AI helps you edit can qualify. Videos still need to be over one minute long and follow the Community Guidelines.
What is TikTok One?
TikTok One is TikTok's official platform for creators and brands to work together. It brings together Creator Marketplace and TikTok Creative Challenge, so you can join paid campaigns that post on your profile, on the brand's profile or run as ads. To join, TikTok asks for 10,000 followers, 1,000 views and 3 posts in the last 30 days, plus the age of majority. Check it in TikTok Studio, under Creator Marketplace.
How much are TikTok gifts worth?
TikTok doesn't publish a cash value per gift or per Diamond, so any chart claiming a lion or a rose is worth an exact dollar amount is a guess. Viewers buy Coins to send gifts, you collect Diamonds based on how popular your LIVE is, and TikTok pays cash rewards you withdraw to PayPal or your bank. The only reliable number is the one in your own LIVE summary and Balance.
How much do TikTokers make?
There's no official average, because income depends on the mix. A creator with 500,000 qualified views a month earns roughly $181 to $518 from the Creator Rewards Program at the published range. Subscriptions, LIVE gifts, TikTok Shop commissions and brand deals sit on top, and for many creators they matter more than views. Anyone quoting one salary figure for every TikToker is guessing.
Does TikTok pay you to watch videos?
No: TikTok's earning programs pay people who create, through qualified views, LIVE gifts, subscriptions, Series, brand campaigns and Shop commissions. Offers that pay you per video watched or liked are a red flag. The FTC describes them as task scams: you might get $5 to $20 at first, then you're asked to deposit your own money, usually in crypto, to unlock more tasks or withdraw. No honest company pays you to like videos, and you should never pay to get paid.
