Your images never leave your device: they’re processed right here, in your browser. No uploads, no sign-up.
Social media sizes checked against the official help centers of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Pinterest in October 2026. When a network only gives the aspect ratio (Reels, TikTok, X posts and the HD thumbnail), we use a sample size with that ratio, above the official minimum. They’re a guide: networks change them without notice. Everything runs in your browser with canvas, and saving strips EXIF data such as GPS location.
To crop image files you shouldn’t have to install anything or upload your photos to a website. Here you drop the image, pick an aspect ratio and move the frame with your mouse, your finger or the keyboard. It’s the quickest way to crop image online with exact pixel sizes, for free.
How to crop an image, step by step
-
Add or paste the image
Drag it in, pick it with a click or paste it with Ctrl+V. No image handy? Tap the page and a sample loads.
-
Pick a ratio or a social network
Fixed ratios like 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 or 16:9, Free or Circle. You can also go straight to a social media size, like the LinkedIn profile background.
-
Place the frame
Drag it to move it and pull the corners to resize. On the keyboard, the arrow keys move it and Shift plus arrows makes it bigger or smaller.
-
Fine-tune and download
If you like, type a final width in pixels and pick the format. The size and file weight show up before you download.
To crop photo after photo with exact measurements, the X, Y, width and height fields take pixels, so you can repeat the same crop on several images.
Aspect ratios and what each one is for
| Ratio | Use it for |
|---|---|
| 1:1 | Profile pictures and square Instagram posts |
| 4:5 | Instagram and Facebook feed ads |
| 3:4 | Portrait Instagram posts (1080 × 1440) |
| 9:16 | Reels, TikTok and Stories |
| 16:9 | YouTube thumbnails, slides and video |
| 1.91:1 | Landscape Instagram posts and LinkedIn images |
| 3:2 | Classic camera photos and 4x6 prints |
Choose a social media crop image size from the dropdown and the frame takes its ratio while the image comes out at exactly those pixels: for example, 1584 × 396 for a LinkedIn profile background or 1500 × 500 for an X header. We checked these sizes against the official help centers in October 2026.
How to crop an image into a circle with a transparent background
Few free tools let you do this without making you sign up. Pick Circle, place the frame over the face or logo and download: you get a PNG with transparent corners. Use it for the profile photo on your site, your email signature, a slide deck or a team page.
Crop image on iPhone, Mac and Word with no extra app
For one picture, the tools already on your devices work fine.
- iPhone: open the photo in Photos, tap Edit, then Crop, and drag the corners to choose the area that stays, as Apple’s guide explains.
- Mac (Preview): to crop image on Mac, open the file, show the Markup toolbar, pick the rectangular selection, mark the area and press Crop.
- Word: to crop picture in Word, select it, go to Picture Format and choose Crop. By default, Word keeps the cropped part hidden inside the file. To delete it, use Compress Pictures and tick the option to delete cropped areas, according to Microsoft.
If you send that document to clients, the hidden crop can carry exactly what you meant to hide. Cropping here is real: the discarded part never travels with the file.
Split image into parts: three equal slides from one picture
Cropping three times from one wide image is the cleanest way to split image into parts for a carousel. Say your panorama is 3240 × 1080 px and you want three 1080 × 1080 squares, the usual Instagram square size.
- Load the image and pick 1:1.
- Type 1080 in Crop width. The height follows on its own.
- Set X to 0 and download. Then set X to 1080 and download. Then set X to 2160 and download.
Set the size before the position, because the tool keeps the frame inside the image. All three files get the same name plus the size, so your browser will number the repeats. Check the order before you upload them.
Crop image online without uploading it
Most online editors upload your photo to their server, and plenty want an account before you can download. Here the crop happens on the browser’s canvas and the image never leaves your device. Saving also strips EXIF data, such as the GPS location in phone photos. That’s handy for client photos, documents or product shots you haven’t published yet.

Frequently asked questions about cropping images
How do I crop an image?
Drop the image into the tool, pick an aspect ratio (or Free) and move the frame over the area you want to keep; the corners resize it. If you prefer precision, type the position and size in pixels. The final size and file weight show up top right, and one click downloads it. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
How do I crop an image into a circle?
Pick Circle in the aspect ratio options, place the frame and download. You get a PNG with transparent corners, ready for a profile picture, your website or your email signature. If you choose JPG instead, the corners get filled with the background color you pick, because JPG doesn’t support transparency.
How do I crop a screenshot?
Take the screenshot with your system shortcut: Windows + Shift + S on Windows, or Cmd + Ctrl + Shift + 4 on a Mac to copy it to the clipboard. Then come back to this page and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac): the screenshot lands in the editor, ready to crop and download.
How do I crop a photo to 4x6?
A 4x6 print is a 3:2 ratio, so pick 3:2 (for landscape) and move the frame where you want it. For a portrait 4x6, choose Free and set the width and height in a 2:3 ratio, for example 1200 × 1800 px. At 300 dpi, a 4x6 print needs 1800 × 1200 px, so start from a photo at least that big.
Does cropping a photo reduce quality?
Cropping itself doesn’t: the pixels you keep are the same. Quality depends on two things. If you then enlarge the crop to a bigger size, it will look softer. And if you save it as JPG or WebP, the compression quality matters: at 90, the default, you won’t see a difference.
How do I crop a PNG without losing transparency?
Keep the output format on Same format, which is the default. A PNG goes in and a PNG comes out, and any transparent areas inside the frame stay transparent. If you pick JPG, those areas are filled with the background color you choose, because JPG can’t store transparency. This tool crops rectangles and circles; it doesn’t remove a photo’s background. For that you need an AI background remover.
