How Much Does YouTube Pay Per View in 2027? Calculator, RPM and Requirements
Checked against YouTube's official Help Center: the real revenue split, what 10,000 to 1 million views earn and what changes on February 1, 2027.
How much does YouTube pay per view? There's no fixed rate. With a US audience, a long-form entertainment channel earns roughly $2.64 to $15.07 per 1,000 views, about $0.003 to $0.015 per view, based on non-official 2024 to 2026 data.
The only official numbers are the revenue shares. Everything else we calculated from country CPM medians and data from 300 channels. We also asked ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and none of them knew the Partner Program rules change on February 1, 2027.
Below: the math for 10,000, 100,000 and 1 million views, the requirements for each tier and the other ways to get paid on YouTube. For more playbooks, see our social media guides.

YouTube RPM vs CPM: how YouTube pays per view
YouTube pays for ads, not for views: you get a share of what advertisers spend, and YouTube RPM measures what that share is worth.
RPM (revenue per mille) is what you actually earn for every 1,000 views on your channel, after YouTube takes its share. You see it in YouTube Studio, and it includes ads, YouTube Premium, channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers, according to YouTube's Help Center.
What it isn't: RPM isn't CPM. CPM is what an advertiser pays per 1,000 ad impressions, before the revenue split. That's why CPM always looks bigger. And not every view shows an ad: in AIR Media-Tech's data, the median channel monetized 53% of its views.
| Metric | What it measures | Before or after the split? |
|---|---|---|
| CPM | What advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions | Before |
| RPM | What you earn per 1,000 views | After |
The split is official. On long-form videos, YouTube pays you 55% of net ad revenue. On Shorts, feed ads go into a Creator Pool and you keep 45% of your allocated share. On memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks, you keep 70%.
How much does YouTube pay per 1000 views by country and niche?
With a US audience, RPM usually lands between about $1.20 and $39 per 1,000 views; where your viewers live matters more than anything else.
Advertisers don't pay the same everywhere. IsThisChannelMonetized's median CPMs (2024 uploads, published by Digital Information World in August 2025) put the US at $11.95, about four times Spain and nine times Brazil.
| Audience country | Median CPM | Estimated RPM, entertainment |
|---|---|---|
| United States | $11.95 | $2.64 to $15.07 |
| United Kingdom | $7.60 | $1.68 to $9.59 |
| Canada | $6.65 | $1.47 to $8.39 |
| Mexico | $1.64 | $0.36 to $2.07 |
| Worldwide median | $2.91 | $0.64 to $3.67 |
Niche does the rest. AIR Media-Tech tracked 300 channels from May 2025 to May 2026. The all-niche median was $2.30 per 1,000 views, with education and science on top ($10.22) and kids content at the bottom ($0.33). Tech, which everyone assumes is a gold mine, came in at $2.33. These are estimates: YouTube doesn't publish per-view rates.
How much does YouTube pay for 1 million views? The math
With a US audience, 1 million long-form views earns an entertainment channel roughly $2,642 to $15,073 from ads.
We ran the numbers with our YouTube money calculator. It multiplies the country's median CPM by each niche's RPM-to-CPM ratio, from the low quartile to the high one. That's why it gives you a range, not one magic number.
| Long-form views | Entertainment | Education and science |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | $26 to $151 | $47 to $394 |
| 100,000 | $264 to $1,507 | $467 to $3,943 |
| 1,000,000 | $2,642 to $15,073 | $4,671 to $39,429 |
If you already see your real RPM in YouTube Studio, type it into the calculator and you'll get your exact number.
How much does YouTube pay for 100k views?
With a US audience, $264 to $1,507 for entertainment and $467 to $3,943 for education, on long-form videos. At the $2.30 all-niche median, about $230.
How many views do you need to make $1,000 on YouTube?
Roughly 66,000 to 379,000 long-form views with a US entertainment audience, or about 435,000 at the $2.30 median. And you need to be in the Partner Program first.
How much does YouTube Shorts pay?
Much less. AIR Media-Tech found Shorts RPM sits at 3% to 14% of long-form RPM in almost every niche. If a million long-form views earn you $1,000, a million Shorts views would earn $30 to $140. From February 2027, you'll only earn from the Shorts Creator Pool in months when you hold 10 million qualified Shorts views over 90 days. If you repost your Shorts as Reels, check the best time to post on Instagram.
Weighing platforms? Compare it with how to make money on TikTok, where creator-reported payouts run about $0.36 to $1.04 per 1,000 qualified views.
How many YouTube views to make $2,000 or $10,000 a month?
With a US audience, you need roughly 133,000 to 758,000 long-form views a month to make $2,000 from ads, and 664,000 to 3.79 million for $10,000, depending on how well your niche pays. We worked it backward from the RPM ranges above: divide your goal by the RPM, then multiply by 1,000.
| Monthly goal | US entertainment ($2.64 to $15.07 RPM) | US education and science ($4.67 to $39.43 RPM) | At the $2.30 all-niche median |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2,000 | 133,000 to 758,000 views | 51,000 to 428,000 views | About 870,000 views |
| $10,000 | 664,000 to 3.79 million views | 254,000 to 2.14 million views | About 4.35 million views |
Here's a check you can run on your own channel. Divide your goal by your monthly views in thousands. Making $2,000 on 100,000 views takes a $20 RPM, which sits in the upper half of the education range and far above entertainment.
These are monthly ad earnings from long-form views. In Shorts, where RPM is 3% to 14% of long-form, you'd need many times more views. Memberships, where you keep 70%, plus Shopping commissions and sponsorships add to the total, and for many creators they decide whether the goal is reachable.
YouTube monetization requirements in 2026 and from February 1, 2027
Today you need 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours in 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.
That's the full YouTube Partner Program, the tier that shares ad revenue. One step below, the expanded YPP unlocks fan funding. The US is on the official country list for both (checked late October 2026).
| Tier | Requirements | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded YPP | 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in 90 days, plus 3,000 watch hours in 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days | Fan funding and Shopping |
| Full YPP, today | 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours in 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days | Ads and YouTube Premium revenue |
| Full YPP, new channels from Feb 1, 2027 | 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 watch hours in 365 days or 20 million Shorts views in 90 days | Ads and YouTube Premium revenue |
YouTube also requires 2-Step Verification, access to advanced features, no active Community Guidelines strikes and an AdSense for YouTube account.
The 2027 change is on YouTube's official page about changes to the YouTube Partner Program. If you're already in, it doesn't affect you, and the 500-subscriber tier stays the same. But every channel will need to stay active: 1,000 watch hours in 365 days, 1 million Shorts views in 90 days, or 2 long-form videos or 5 Shorts every 90 days. You also have to accept the new terms in YouTube Studio by January 31, 2027.
How many subscribers to get paid on YouTube?
500 to earn from fans, as long as you meet the uploads and watch hours, and 1,000 to earn from ads.
How many views to make money on YouTube?
It depends on view length. At a 4-minute average, 4,000 watch hours equals 60,000 views in a year; from 2027, 120,000. Through Shorts, it's 10 million in 90 days today and 20 million after.

How to get paid on YouTube: PIN, tax info and payment threshold
To get paid on YouTube you clear four steps: verify your identity, submit tax info, pick a payment method and reach the payment threshold. Two of them, the identity check and the payment method, kick in at about $10 in earnings, long before the payout, so start early.
- Identity and PIN. At the verification threshold ($10), YouTube asks you to confirm your identity and address. Depending on your location you may get online verification. Otherwise a PIN arrives by regular mail at your payment address, and it can take three to four weeks.
- Tax info. Every monetizing creator must submit it, wherever they live. In the US you fill in a W-9, and Google doesn't withhold taxes if it's valid. Outside the US, Google withholds 0% to 30% of what US viewers generate, depending on your country's tax treaty. With no tax info at all, up to 24% of your worldwide earnings can be withheld.
- Payment method. You pick it at $10. Depending on your address, options include electronic funds transfer, Hyperwallet, wire transfer or check. After the payment is issued, Hyperwallet takes 1 to 2 days, EFT up to 7 business days, wire up to 15 and check 2 to 4 weeks.
- Threshold. It's $100 for accounts in dollars. Below it, the balance rolls over to the next month.
YouTube's own example: on $1,000 of earnings, $100 from US viewers, no tax info means $240 withheld. With a treaty at 15% it's $15, and without a treaty, $30. Submit by December 10 each year, and note that forms expire after the third full calendar year. US creators get a 1099-MISC, typically by early March. Google can't give tax advice, so check your case with an accountant.
YouTube inauthentic content policy: what stopped paying in July 2025
YouTube won't monetize mass-produced, repetitive or templated content, or reused content that adds nothing original.
On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its "repetitious content" policy to "inauthentic content" and called it a minor update; the reused content policy didn't change. Its channel monetization policies rule out slideshows with no narration, near-identical videos and AI content built on generic templates that looks mass-produced.
AI itself isn't banned. You can use it to edit scripts, generate a background or bring a character you created to life. What's out: AI personas posing as experts on health, legal or financial topics.
Beyond ads: YouTube channel memberships, Super Thanks and Shopping
Fan funding and Shopping unlock from 500 subscribers, and you keep 70% of what fans spend.
| Feature | What it is | Key requirement | Available in the US? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Channel memberships | Monthly fee for perks | YPP, 18+ and a channel not set as made for kids | Yes |
| Super Chat and Super Stickers | Paid highlighted messages in streams and Premieres | YPP and 18+ | Yes |
| Super Thanks | A fan pays to highlight their comment | YPP and 18+ | Yes |
| YouTube Shopping affiliate program | Commission on other brands' products you tag | YPP, not a music or kids channel | Yes |
YouTube channel memberships and Super Thanks also work in Spain and Brazil, and the Shopping affiliate program runs in 14 countries, the US included (checked late October 2026). Sponsorships are separate: you negotiate them yourself, and they're a form of native advertising that needs a clear label.
Act as a YouTube channel analyst. My channel covers [your niche] and most of my audience is in [country]. My last 90 days in YouTube Studio: [views], RPM of [amount], [watch hours] and [subscribers]. Tell me how far I am from the YouTube Partner Program under today's rules and under the February 2027 rules. Then give me three ways to raise my RPM without switching niches.
Frequently asked questions about YouTube pay
Is 2,000 views in 1 day good?
For a small channel, yes. 2,000 views a day is about 60,000 a month, which earns roughly $158 to $904 at US entertainment RPMs, or about $138 at the $2.30 all-niche median. It also moves you fast toward the Partner Program: if each view lasts 4 minutes, that's about 133 watch hours a day, so 4,000 hours in roughly a month. Consistency matters more than any single day.
How much does YouTube pay per view without ads?
Usually nothing from ads, because ad revenue only exists when an ad is shown. That's why your RPM is lower than your CPM: it spreads earnings across every view. In AIR Media-Tech's data, the median channel monetized 53% of its views. Views from YouTube Premium members are the exception: they don't see ads, but you get a share of Premium revenue based on their watch time.
How much does YouTube pay per subscriber?
Zero. YouTube doesn't pay for subscribers, only for the ads people watch and the money fans spend on your channel. Subscribers matter in two ways: you need 500 to unlock fan funding and 1,000 to earn from ads in the YouTube Partner Program, and loyal subscribers are the ones who buy memberships. A channel with fewer subscribers and more views can out-earn a bigger one.
How does YouTube pay you?
Monthly, through your AdSense for YouTube account. Between the 7th and 12th, YouTube adds last month's finalized earnings to your balance. If your balance reaches the $100 payment threshold by the 20th and you have no payment holds, you're paid between the 21st and 26th. If not, the balance rolls over to the next month. A bank transfer can take a few more business days to land.
What is a good RPM on YouTube?
One above your niche's median, because niches pay very differently. In AIR Media-Tech's study of 300 channels from May 2025 to May 2026, the all-niche median was $2.30 per 1,000 views. Education and science channels had a median of $10.22, gaming $2.05 and kids content just $0.33. A US-heavy audience pushes you higher. Compare yourself with your niche, not with a finance channel.
How much do YouTubers make?
There's no official average, because income depends on views, niche and where the audience lives. A lifestyle channel with a mostly US audience and 200,000 monthly views would earn roughly $795 to $2,354 a month from ads, based on our calculator. On top of that come fan funding, where you keep 70%, Shopping affiliate commissions and sponsorships, which for many creators matter more than ads.
