CPM Calculator: CPM, CPC, CTR, CPA and Ad Budget in One Place
This CPM calculator connects CPM, CPC, CTR, CPA and conversion rate: enter two or three numbers you know and it works out the rest, plus the budget you need.
Enter 2 or 3 numbers you know (say, ad spend, CPC and CTR) and we work out the rest.
–Budget needed
–Clicks needed
–Impressions needed
For the budget you need the CPA, or the CPC and conversion rate.
- CPM = ad spend ÷ impressions × 1,000
- CPC = ad spend ÷ clicks
- CTR = clicks ÷ impressions × 100
- Conversion rate = conversions ÷ clicks × 100
- CPA = ad spend ÷ conversions

Everything is calculated in your browser: nothing is saved or sent.
Most tools give you one metric at a time. This one is a CPC calculator, a CTR calculator and a CPA calculator wired together: change any of the nine numbers and the rest update.
How to use the CPM calculator
-
Enter what you already know
Your spend and two metrics, or the impressions, clicks and conversions from a past campaign. Calculated fields turn blue and their hint reads “Calculated.”
-
Or start from a benchmark
In the table below, “Use” loads the CPC, CTR and conversion rate for Google Ads or Meta Ads. If you already typed a spend, it stays.
-
Set how many sales or leads you want
The calculator tells you the budget, clicks and impressions you need to get there.
-
Check the warnings and copy
If you enter numbers that don’t add up, it tells you which ones. “Copy result” gives you every figure, ready for a report.
How to calculate CPM, CPC, CTR, CPA and conversion rate
| Metric | Formula | Example |
|---|---|---|
| CPM | spend ÷ impressions × 1,000 | $500 ÷ 50,000 × 1,000 = $10 |
| CPC | spend ÷ clicks | $500 ÷ 500 = $1 |
| CTR | clicks ÷ impressions × 100 | 500 ÷ 50,000 × 100 = 1% |
| Conversion rate | conversions ÷ clicks × 100 | 10 ÷ 500 × 100 = 2% |
| CPA | spend ÷ conversions | $500 ÷ 10 = $50 |
That’s how to calculate CPM by hand, and why two or three numbers are enough: every metric links to the others. CPM = CPC × CTR × 1,000, and CPA = CPC ÷ conversion rate.
What is CPA in marketing? The formula and your maximum CPA
CPA (cost per acquisition, or cost per action) is what each conversion costs you: spend ÷ conversions. A conversion can be a sale, a form or a call, so pick one definition before comparing.
What tells you whether a campaign is worth running is your maximum CPA, the most you can pay without losing money: selling price × gross margin. That also answers “what is a good CPA”: anything under that ceiling.
A made-up example: you sell a product for $90 at a 40% gross margin. Each sale leaves $36, so that’s your ceiling. With a $1.50 CPC and a 3% conversion rate, CPA is 1.50 ÷ 0.03 = $50, and you lose $14 per sale. To break even you need a 4.17% conversion rate (1.50 ÷ 36) or a CPC of $1.08.
Try it in the calculator: type the CPC and the conversion rate and read the CPA. Automated bidding strategies ask for this exact number as a target CPA.
How much ads cost: Google Ads and Meta Ads benchmarks for 2026
These are medians from US campaigns, from WordStream’s Google Ads benchmarks and its 2026 Facebook ads report:
| Platform | CTR | CPC | Conversion rate | Cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Ads (search) | 6.64% | $5.42 | 8.18% | $66.69 |
| Meta Ads (traffic) | 1.93% | $0.60 | – | – |
| Meta Ads (leads) | 2.70% | $1.80 | 8.54% | $27.39 |
So it doubles as a Facebook ads cost calculator: load the Meta row, set your goal and you get a first budget. Use the medians to check that your campaign is in a sane range, not as the price you’ll pay.
Cost per lead (CPL): meaning, formula and what a good one looks like
CPL means cost per lead: spend ÷ leads captured. It’s a CPA where the conversion is a contact, such as a form or a call. In the calculator, type your leads under conversions.
A cheap lead isn’t a cheap customer. What matters is cost per customer: CPL ÷ the share of leads that buy. Take WordStream’s 2026 US medians from the table above and assume you close 1 in 10 Meta leads and 1 in 5 Google leads:
| Channel | CPL | Assumed close rate | Cost per customer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Ads (leads) | $27.39 | 1 in 10 | $273.90 |
| Google Ads (search) | $66.69 | 1 in 5 | $333.45 |
The close rates are assumptions. Measure yours in your CRM or a spreadsheet before you decide what a good CPL is.
How to plan an ad budget: a worked example
Hit “Use” on Google Ads. With $1,000 in spend, a $5.42 CPC, a 6.64% CTR and an 8.18% conversion rate, CPA comes out at $66.26. For 50 leads you need about $3,313, 612 clicks and 9,206 impressions.
Now change only the conversion rate to 10%. CPA drops to $54.20 and the budget for those 50 leads to $2,710. A better landing page usually saves more than fighting over every cent of CPC.
Once you know your cost per sale, check that it leaves profit with the ROI calculator. If you collect contacts rather than sales, start with what a lead is in marketing. There are more guides in online advertising and more calculators in our free marketing tools.
Frequently asked questions about CPM and ad costs
What is a good CPM?
The one that gets you a profitable CPA. CPM on its own says little: a cheap CPM with nobody clicking costs more per sale than a pricey one that converts. Use benchmarks as a sanity check instead. Triple Whale’s 2026 data puts the median CPM at $15.06 on Meta for ecommerce brands and $15.35 blended across Google Ads. If you’re far above that, look at audience size and creative fatigue first.
What is a good CPM for Meta ads?
For ecommerce, Triple Whale’s 2026 benchmark shows a median of $15.06, up 13% on the year before, with Health & Wellness the priciest category at $21.80 and Baby the cheapest at $11.50. Lead generation and local businesses can land elsewhere. A CPM that keeps climbing while CTR falls usually means your ad is wearing out, so refresh the creative before you raise the budget.
What is a good CPM on YouTube?
It depends on which side you’re on. Advertisers pay CPM per 1,000 ad impressions. Creators see that CPM in YouTube Studio but get paid RPM, which is revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share (creators keep 55% of ad revenue on long-form videos) and counting views with no ads. For US audiences, IsThisChannelMonetized put the median CPM at $11.95 for videos uploaded in 2024.
How much do Facebook ads cost?
You set the budget, so the real question is what each result costs. WordStream’s 2026 benchmarks put the median US cost per click at $0.60 for traffic campaigns and $1.80 for lead campaigns, with a median cost per lead of $27.39. Start with a test budget big enough for at least a few dozen clicks, then plug your real numbers into this calculator to forecast the rest.
