Trim video online for free, right in your browser
Trim video in seconds: drag the start and end handles over a strip of frames and keep just that part as an MP4, at full quality. Your file never leaves your device.
or click to choose it. MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, from your phone or computer.

Pick a video and mark the part you want.
Your video never leaves your device: it’s trimmed right here, in your browser. No uploads, no sign-up, no watermark.
How it works: your browser reads the video and, with “No re-encoding”, copies the clip as is, with no quality loss. Pick another quality or resolution and it re-encodes the clip to H.264 with WebCodecs. The open-source Mediabunny library only downloads once you pick a video, and nothing goes to any server.
To trim video, you shouldn’t need an app, an account or a watermark-removal fee. Mark where the clip starts, where it ends, download it. That’s the whole job here, and the file never leaves your device. It works whether you want to trim a video from your phone, a screen recording or a one-hour livestream.
How to trim a video in 4 steps
-
Open your video
Drag it in or pick it: MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. A strip of frames from the whole video appears right away.
-
Set the start and end
Drag the two handles, type the times, or play the video and press “Set start here” and “Set end here”. With a keyboard, the arrow keys move each handle.
-
Check the clip
“Preview the clip” plays only the selected part and stops at the end. The panel on the right shows the length and the expected file size.
-
Trim and download
With “No re-encoding” it takes a couple of seconds. Download the MP4 and you’re done.
A video cutter that doesn’t re-encode: why it’s so fast
A video doesn’t store every frame in full. Every few seconds it saves a complete one, the keyframe, and in between only the changes. This video cutter copies that data untouched and tells the MP4 exactly where playback should start. Same quality as the original, and only seconds of waiting, even for long files.
Pick a quality level (High, Balanced or Smallest file) or a resolution and the clip gets re-encoded to H.264 instead. It takes a bit longer, but you trim and compress in one go, which is what you want when the clip has to fit in an email.
One catch with WebM: the format can’t mark a start point, so without re-encoding the cut begins at the previous keyframe. The tool warns you, and choosing any quality level gives you a frame-exact cut.
How to split a video or cut a part out of the middle
Trim shortens a video from either end. Split cuts it into pieces at points you choose. This tool exports one range at a time, but the video stays loaded, so you can split a video into clips without reopening it. An example: a 60-minute webinar in six 10-minute clips.
- Type 0:00 in “Start” and 10:00 in “End,” then press “Trim video.”
- Change the times to 10:00 and 20:00 and export again.
- Keep going until minute 60. With “No re-encoding,” each export takes a few seconds.
To remove a flub from the middle, export two clips: the start up to the flub, and the end of the flub up to the finish. Then join them in an editor, because this tool doesn’t merge videos. With WebM files, pick a quality level first, or the clips may start a little early.
Trim video online free for Reels, TikTok and Shorts
Where a quick video trimmer saves marketers the most time:
- 3-second hooks. Cut the hello and the dead air at the start: on social, what doesn’t grab people instantly doesn’t get watched.
- Clips from a live stream or webinar. One hour can give you five or six short pieces. Keep marking, trimming and moving the handles without reloading the file.
- Ad cut-downs. Pull a 15-second and a 6-second version from the same video and test which one performs.
- Lighter website videos. An 8-second background loop weighs far less than a 40-second one.
It’s like any tool to cut a video online or trim video online, minus the upload: you can trim video online free in any modern browser, and cut video online from your phone just as easily.
How to trim a video on iPhone: Photos or your browser
Apple’s guide is short: open the video in Photos, tap Edit, drag either end of the frame viewer, then tap Done. After that you choose Save Video, which keeps only the trimmed version, or Save Video as New Clip, which keeps both. On Windows, Microsoft’s help page points to the Photos app, with a trim tool on Ctrl + E and a Save as Copy option.
Use this page when you need more:
- Type exact times instead of dragging handles.
- Trim and shrink the file in one step, with “Balanced” and 720p.
- Pull several clips from one file.
- Work on a computer where you can’t install anything.
On an iPhone it runs in Safari, and the MP4 lands in the Files app, under Downloads.
Frequently asked questions about trimming videos
How do I trim a video to 60 seconds?
Set the start handle where your clip should begin, then type a time exactly 60 seconds later in the “End” box, for example 0:12.0 to 1:12.0. The summary panel shows the clip length to the tenth of a second, so you can check it before you export. Keep “No re-encoding” on and it’s done in a couple of seconds.
How do I trim a large video online for free?
Use a tool that doesn’t upload it. Most online trimmers cap files at 500 MB to a few GB because they have to receive them first. This one reads the file straight from your device, so there’s no upload limit, and with “No re-encoding” it copies the data instead of rebuilding it, which keeps even long recordings fast.
How do I change the length of a video?
To make it shorter, trim it: pick the part you want and drop the rest. To change the speed instead, you need an editor, since speeding up footage means rebuilding every frame. For social clips, trimming is usually the better move: cutting the slow intro does more for watch time than playing everything faster.
How do you cut a video?
You choose an in point and an out point and keep only what’s between them. The fast way copies the encoded data as is, with no quality loss. The frame-exact way that works with any format re-encodes the clip. This tool does the first by default and the second when you pick a quality level, and it runs entirely in your browser.
How do I trim a video?
Open it here, drag the two handles on the frame strip to where the clip starts and ends, press “Preview the clip” to check it, then hit “Trim video” and download the MP4. On a phone it works the same way in Chrome or Safari. If the trimmed clip is still too big to send, choose “Balanced” and 720p before trimming.
Can VLC trim a video?
Yes, but VLC has no real trim tool: it records while the video plays. Turn on Advanced Controls in the View menu, press the record button where the clip should start and press it again where it should end. Because it records in real time, a 10-minute clip takes 10 minutes, and the cut points depend on your timing. Here you set the start and end to a tenth of a second, and the clip is ready in seconds.
